What is Autism.

Autism is a developmental condition where a person can experience persistent difficulties with

  • Social Communication

  • Social Interaction

  • Restrictive & repetitive patterns of behaviours, activities or interests (this includes sensory behaviour)

Autism is understood as a spectrum because the characteristics of autism vary from person to person and can affect how a person functions in different environments i.e. education, home, work and relationships. It is not uncommon for a person with autism to present with co-morbidities such as anxiety, depression and self-harm, we can support you or your child to manage these difficulties through a range of different therapies. A diagnosis of autism can be given in early childhood or later in life.

Autism assessment with children:

  • Initial assessment (to gain a clearer understanding of yours/your child’s needs).

  • The Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS -2)

  • The 3di (parent assessment to understand developmental concerns)

  • Gathering information from school (child assessment only)

  • Cognitive assessment (if need is indicated)

  • Feedback meeting to discuss the outcomes of the assessment.

Autism assessment with adults:

  • Initial assessment (to gain a clearer understanding of your needs).

  • An Adult Autism Assessment interview.

  • Feedback meeting.

SUPPORTING THOSE WHO HURT THEMSELVES

I have a specialist interest in working with parents of children who self-harm and offer support to parents' and children on a 1;1 basis or in groups. Understanding self-harm can be very overwhelming and can affect the whole family. The work we will do together aims to enable positive  changes to behavior, promote mental and emotional wellbeing, builds self-esteem and improves relationships.
If you would like more information on this therapy, please contact me for an informal chat.
